A painted portrait of a beloved. A family heirloom.
 

Teresa rediscovered her passion for painting almost by accident after many years of being a mother, entrepreneur and dentist.  She realized she had an ability, a talent, to draw the likeness in her favorite subjects; her family members.

 

Born in Mexico City, retired from a long career as a pediatric dentist in Maryland, she is now established in Radford Virginia.

Self-taught, guided by masters such as John Singer Sargent and Mary Cassatt, she creates her portraits in oil and incorporates several techniques, including:  alla prima, indirect approach, and mixed media. 

 

“A portrait to me, means getting to know my subject; feelings, emotions, and gestures that identify their singularity or essence of a human being, as much as their facial features. I started painting portraits for friends, patients, usually grandchildren and departed loved ones. These gifts have become Family Heirlooms to such friends and family.  Although my technique starts with photographs of my subject, they are images that give me the personality of that individual, secondary to the pose. That is why my favorite subjects are children; they project everything they are with every movement and expression captured by a single moment. It is not uncommon for  parents to share a favorite picture and ask me to reproduce it with an artistic flair. This is my passion!”
