Artist Statement
Ruth's unique approach to art is evident in her work. She says she often lets the canvas speak for itself, choosing to create a feeling or soul of a subject rather than a realistic depiction. Ruth is greatly inspired by nature where she spends many hours on a painting often using rich hues and multiple layers of textures. The end result is a painting which conveys different emotions to individual viewers. With more than a decade of painting, Ruth continues to grow and refine her work to connect her subjects with art lovers.
About the Artist
Since Ruth’s retirement from elementary education, she has been exploring her lifelong interest in art. As an active member of the art community, she has received awards in regional juried shows including the Virginia Watercolor Society and the Central Virginia Watercolor Guild. No matter the style or subject, it is evident she finds joy in the beauty around her and in expressing life experiences through her art. Her work is on display at several locations throughout Southwest Virginia.
