Artist Statement
I am a photographic artist who is also an Instructor of Photography at Virginia Tech in the School for Visual Arts (SOVA) since 200. I teach one of the Pathway courses, “Digital Photography”. In the past, I have taught advanced photography, studio lighting, history of photography, and alternative photographic processes. I was educated at Pratt Institute, School of Art and Design, and specializing in black and white photography; darkroom master printer, and studio work, along with focusing on chemical manipulations called Chromoskedasic. I received my MFA in 1995. I have participated in both solo and group shows. I have collaborated with the DARC group for the grand opening of the Taubman Museum in Roanoke, Virginia, and participated in Singing Darwin at Virginia Tech. I am a participant in Blacksburg Regional Art Association (BRAA) and have local shows through their venues. I have participated in public art at the Hahn’s Art Garden for BRAA shown at the Montgomery Museum and Lewis Miller Regional Art Center. In addition, I am a participant in the BRAA “ArtSpace” at the venue of the Artful Lawyer gallery. I photograph many subjects. For this particular show, I used a water droplet caressed and held by a huge leaf to show the symbiotic nature of life and our connection to it.
