Seeing Through the Haze

Artist Statement

I joined a Black and White photography class for tweens at the request of my best friend, and never put down my camera ever since. I then explored color negative and slides, fine-tuning my technical approach to mixing light and color. I eventually switched to digital. I photograph in color but convert some shots to Black and White to create artistic photographs. Black and White dissociates the scene or subject from reality, enabling me to play with light, texture and contrast in ways that are not possible with color. Liberated from the bias introduced by color, I aim to trigger another set of feelings, emotions and reactions that let the viewers appreciate a landscape on a new and organic level.
