Artist Statement
When traveling with my husband in Feb 2020, we came upon these donkeys who were so friendly and curious. Throughout the Covid-19 lockdown, every time I looked at their faces in the photo I took, I was reminded of the freedoms we took for granted prior to the pandemic and how happy this friendly trio made me feel with their soft faces. Not only are there 12 feet on the three donkeys, but they should each be six feet apart to be properly socially distanced in the time of Covid-19 and 2 x 6 = 12.
The quilt is crafted using raw-edge applique and free motion quilting. It is attached to a 19” x 23” wooden frame for easy hanging.

About the Artist
Carol has been traditional quilting since 2011. She began trying different techniques to expand her abilities in 2015, but it wasn't until moving to Blacksburg, VA in 2018 that she discovered the world of art quilting and found an inspiring group of talented artists in the Textile Artists of Virginia (TAVA). Her work has been shown at the Virginia Quilting Museum and the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival. Carol creates animal portraits from good quality photographs and commissioned work is welcomed. She lives in Blacksburg with her husband and dogs where she pursues her passions of creating art quilts that reflect nature and animals and creating a native landscape to help the imperiled pollinators.
