Aileen Fletcher

Born in Wasington, DC,  Aileen grew up in suburban Maryland, graduating from Bethesda Chevy Chase High school. Art was always her favorite subject and math her least favorite subject. As a freshman at Randolph Macon Woman’s College, she met Peter Fletcher, her future husband, on a blind date.  They were married a year and a half later. Peter was a math major.  The couple moved to North Carolina where he pursued a PhD in mathmetics at UNCCH and she  a BA from Duke in art.

The couple moved to Blacksburg, Va when he got a job teaching math at Virginia Tech. They adopted 2 children.  She pursued a Masters at VT. She taught art at New River Community College for 33 years, retiring in 2011.  Sadly, she lost her husband of 58 years in 2019.

She has been interested in art all her life and now concentrates on photography as her major artistic pursuit.  She loves photographing landscapes, “dead Houses”, her family, flowers, and anything that’s growing.  She sometimes paints on her photos.  She made the major change from darkroom to digital over the course of 10 years but she misses the darkroom.  As she is now officially old, she still hopes to continue working with photography for the rest of her life.
